Right now in the United States, there are plenty of people who are deeply bothered by the outcome of our recent elections. Regardless of which side they’re on, there’s so much negative emotion in the air that it’s easy to feel like a small paper kite being buffeted by a strong, fickle wind.
This is not surprising. As I’ve said in my other blogs and books, we generally think about 50,000 thoughts a day, and of these, 40,000 are framed negatively. Worse, 90% of what we think is a rehash of what we thought yesterday, and eventually, the thoughts we think repeatedly get hard-wired into our brains. This is where the expression “neurons that fire together, wire together” comes from.
And when many, many people are bothered by something, they express a lot of negative emotion. When this happens, an energy cloud, called an egregor, begins to form. If you get caught up in it, it’s hard to escape because your own individual energy tends to disappear inside it.
The real problem, though, is that when people are bothered, they become convinced that the frightening stories in their heads are absolutely, positively going to come true. And since focusing on anything does amplify it energetically, they could be right if they keep thinking about what they don’t want to have happen.
This may have been one of the contributing factors to Donald Trump’s win; the sheer energetic force of people who said they didn’t want it to happen. Since our minds are designed to create, anything “NOT!” we place in our brains drops out, and we are left with a mental image and energetic flow towards what we resist. For example, if I say “DON’T slam the door!” you still see the door slamming, even with a forcefully worded “NOT!” Or if I say, “DON’T think about the pink elephant!” that’s all you can see in your mind.
So to offer a little relief now and protection from later consequences, I offer this simple question that shifts everything for the better energetically:
Think about it. To those who were certain that Donald Trump wouldn’t win the Presidency: “Really?” To those who are certain that he absolutely, positively is going to take a particular action: “Really?” It has nothing to do with the fact that he has changed his mind before, and everything to do with the complex laws of nature and energy. By releasing the tension in what you’ve been focusing on, flow returns.
Emotionally, “Really?” stops a tsunami of doubt and fear in its tracks, if only for a few seconds. “Really?” can be immediately felt in the body as physical relief from tension. “Really?” is the antidote to feeling stuck or exhausted, because once it is vocalized, it takes energy that has frozen into hard points and releases them into waves of possibility. “Really?” also removes the limitations of our conscious thinking minds and reconnects us to the universal mind, which always upholds life in the end.
“Really?” not only works energetically; it also works practically. It is the voice of challenge, the friend of innovation, the foundation of change. It is both the rebellious child and the suspicious parent, depending on what is most needed at the moment.
So if you’re really, really bothered by something, try saying “Really?” “REALLY?” a couple of times. You’ll likely unleash some sweet surprises for yourself and others.
