Happiness Wants to Dance With You

August 27, 2017Robin SilvermanBalance, Energy, happiness, Holistic, Stress Relief

Happiness is calling to you right now.  So put on your dancing shoes.

You know the feeling.  You wake up with a song that you can’t get out of your head, and without thinking, you’re dancing with your favorite blouse while it’s still on the hanger and singing in the shower.

Your baby smiles at you, and suddenly, you’re cheek-to-cheek, swaying your hips and crooning in his ear.

You just scored a great deal on the house of your dreams, and you and your significant other pop open a couple of beers and start hip-bumping in the kitchen.

You’re walking down the street, sucked into the irresistible beat of a drum circle, and even though you keep going, your steps align with the rhythm.

You’re at a wedding, and even though it’s the bride and groom’s first dance, your feet are tapping.

It’s like life itself is calling to you, and you just can’t help but say yes.

There is music in all of us, just waiting to be unleashed.  The Sufi poet Hafiz said it best: “I am the hole in the flute that God’s breath flows through.”  When we are doing our happy dance, we don’t worry or wonder what others think of us; we just let life and love take over our bodies for a few precious minutes and go with the flow.

When I first created Fullistic® Living, I invented a 30-minute dance program designed to help people awaken their energy, align their chakras and let go.   It was a ton of fun to do, and the participants in my programs told me they felt better afterwards.  But then I realized that fullistically, no structure or formal class is needed.  Anywhere, any time, any day, all we have to do is look around, listen, and let go.  Love and joy are constantly calling to us, inviting us to the party.

If you need a reminder about how delicious, how satisfying, how lusciously free it feels to just let your body rock, take a look at this video.   Yes, it’s a commercial for Levi’s jeans, but it just may bring tears of joy to your eyes because it shows happiness unleashed by men, women, boys and girls of all ages around the world as they just let loose and dance.  At the end, it poses a wonder-FULL challenge:  “Let’s live how we dance.”

You don’t have to be happy to do your happy dance, either.

When you’re stressed, there’s nothing like letting happiness move through you by turning on your favorite music, closing your eyes, and letting yourself surrender to its magic.   You can dance to shake off a rough day before you go to bed; or to get rid of the jitters before a big presentation to a client.

If you are happy, or ready to be happy, all you have to do is pay attention.  Life wants to dance with you, for you and through you. At any given moment, as molecules and subatomic particles collide, the music of life hums in every person, place and thing.

This is your moment.  Happiness is extending its hand to you.

Happy dancing!
